How to Increase Twitter Followers for Free: Useful Tips and Video

by Justyna

Get more Twitter followersTwitter is nowadays one of the most powerful marketing tools, huge search engine, a place with millions of members and what’s more what you do on Twitter influences SEO of your websites. It is though important to know how to increase Twitter followers – by that I mean valuable followers, not just machine operated Twitter accounts, which very often send spam twits.

How to get more Twitter followers:

  1. Make sure that you are careful about automating Twitter too much. Don’t repeat the same message several times because it looks spammy. If you want to send information about the same website, change the message about it.
  2. Balance automation with personal engagement.
  3. Make sure that you keep integrity when acting in Twitter and various other social networks you belong to and participate in discussions. Remember that it isn’t difficult anymore to find out quickly what you write about in various other networks.
  4. Post valuable content. Mix educational, entertaining and inspiring content with the content of your own blog, any upcoming events, your achievements, thoughts and ideas, your market news and articles, helpful tools and applications, other valuable blogs.
  5. Participate in discussions on Twitter by:
  • retweeting interesting content of others
  • replying to posts which mention you or your blog/websites
  • replying to other interesting messages posted by others.

Hi Justyna

“…what you do on Twitter influences SEO of your websites.”
That is so depressing!

I know that you’re right but I just can’t imagine myself twittering.

Is there any hope for a non twitterer?

Hi Keith,

your case is not that hopeless ;) but you are one of the very few people I know who don’t use Twitter yet :)

You don’t have to use Twitter, there are other powerful ways to influence SERP’s of your website. If you use other methods from Traffic Ten, it will already give a great advantage over competition ;)

hey Justynka

How are you? Twitter, to me is a platform that requires a relaxed mind and just chatting like face to face with a friend. That is when it makes sense.

I remember reading a post on Kikolani about the Twitter strategies, It works when you have more twitter profiles than just one.

The strategies? perhaps be controversial if it is your style

Hey Martyna,

thanks for your comment :)
I wonder which exactly strategies she wrote about. I think it is important to be just yourself and avoid spamming at all cost.

Heh, and look where I’m going to link to…

I’ve mentioned in my post that automating can help or hurt you, and it’s completely up to you how it goes. If you’re not on top of your automation, it will turn and bite you, big time.

However, a little automation can help you too. In my tut I’ve shown how you can dredge up old posts and tweet them out now and then. I don’t see anything wrong with it…in fact I see some notable people doing the exact same thing. Usually, the tweets are prefaced with “From the archives…” or something in the same vein.

I’ve been up and down with my Twitter account, and right now I’m working on growing my followers. I’m flooded with bots as followers, which is the equivalent of having no followers.

Good read, enjoyed it!

Hi Wayne,

thanks for your valuable comment.

I agree with you that moderate amount of automation is good. When done wisely it can actually help save some time and still deliver value to the followers :)
I know exactly what you mean about bots as followers, been there as well. From time to time I simply make my Twitter account clean-up and delete them.

Good luck with increasing your Twitter followers!!
I’m curious to read your article.

Greetings

How do you go about removing bots as your followers? Block them?

I’ve already pruned the number of people I follow to a more manageable number, from 2700 to 70…and that was manually. Tiring to say the least.

Just block the followers that I don’t want following me?

John, I know what you mean about manually removing those unwanted you followed ;) It was more than tiring for me.

Why do you want to spend your time on removing following you bots or blocking them? They will be coming and going and you cannot stop it, just don’t follow them. I don’t know when you pruned the numbers on your list but probably many bots have already left your lists, as they are set up to follow you if you follow them :) So it should solve the problem in many cases.

I’m curious why you want to remove following bots manually, maybe I’m missing out on something here :)

Hello Justyna,
so the SEO benefit, and traffic benefit comes when others tweet about you. It seems that having twitter followers who already know you is the way to go, like inviting people from your list to join you on Twitter. Does Twitter actually work as a lead generation tool? Just wondering, if you have some experience with that.

Hi Kai,

Well said about the importance of building good relationships with others in social media. I think it is one of the most important things both in Facebook and Twitter. Quality followers can bring a lot of benefits for you and your business. Twitter can be used as a lead generation tool to target especially those who are new and use valuable for you keywords in their descriptions and also usernames. I don’t use it with Twitter, however. I prefer to follow those, whom I find interesting and valuable to connect with.

I’ve seen your Twitter profile and you are doing really well :)

Hello Justyna, what you say agrees with my own impressions, that Twitter is more for staying connected than for generating leads. Thanks for your kind words about my profile; I have not done to much with it yet

Thanks for the tips. But in my experience, to get 1000 followers, you need to spend a long time. Another way can boost your followers on Twitter quickly is using Twiends – a great handy gadget for Twitter.

I am completely agree with you about not spamming in twitter account. It looses the interests of any human being to see same post.
Your point #4 is very much true for any instance. If you are not posting mixed topics, then it is impossible to grab attention from the people of various fields. Everyone wants to go through their favourite topics at first and then they look to the others.
