Ping list for WordPress Blog Explained!

Having a good ping list is a very important factor to make your wordpress self-hosted blog work well! Every blog’s owner, who wants to attract more visitors to his /her website and to be visible in internet, has to install such list. The whole concept behind pinglist is about informing various services about new content on the blog. It is a signal for them that you want your site to be indexed or crawled by google robots for example. Such robots crawl sites in search for relevant content and keywords and categorize them adequately.

How do you install it on your blog?
In your dashboard you need to go to Settings and then Writing.

After choosing writing, go to the bottom of the page “writing settings”, to update services. You paste the pinglist there, erasing what was previously left there.  Save it and it’s done.

There is one more thing you need to know.
Wordpress by default informs all the pinglist services, whenever you make any changes with your posts. It includes: editing, saving drafts, updating, etc… When you do it quite often, you may be banned by some of the services due to extensive pinging. There is however a way to prevent it. You need to get a plugin called MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer.  When you are on their website, simply scroll down to the bottom and click on the download link. This plugin is absolutely free, the only inconvenience is that after uploading it to your server and installing on your blog you need to register it with the plugin creator. You can do it easily through your dashboard when you go to settings and find MBP Ping Optimizer on the list there.

I haven’t heard of any similar plugins and if you want to use ping list it is essential to install it.

Here is, however, a sneaky tip: if you want to avoid registering MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer, install another plugin called Cbnet MBP Auto-Activate.
