Using Videos is an extremely powerful method of driving traffic to your sites. Google indexes videos as well as text, and both Google and internet users love multimedia content on websites.
Mixing videos, audios, images and text is a great way to make your site more attractive so visitors want to stay longer. Also many people want, or prefer, to watch videos rather than read pure text.
In addition to that, there are many valuable free video directories, such as Youtube or Viddler, where you can upload your videos to get even more online exposure and drive more traffic to your websites. We will look at them closely in further parts of this video series.
Types of videos you can make and find online:
- Talking head – nothing builds trust more than letting your customers see you. Studies have proven that you are at least twice as persuasive if your customers have already met you, or spoken with you, or have seen you before you ask for a sale.
- Screencapture videos – you capture what’s happening on your computer screen, combined with your voice. This is a great way to create tutorials and other how to step by step videos.
- Videos that are a combination of:
- audio, text and images,
- audio and slides presentations.
- Recorded webinars turned into videos
Before we will look closely at some of the best video making programs, it is essential to master online video techniques. They will help your video stand out and attract others to read more of your content.
Keith Davis from easy public speaking has recently published a really interesting and valuable post on online video techniques. He introduced an online video expert Tom Breeze. Tom prepared a special mini course in online video. You can watch the video directly from Keith’s blog post.
In a record time of 24 minutes, Tom has covered the most important aspects of making a really good video. You will be surprised to see how much your video techniques can improve after you implement what Tom says. While watching the video, don’t just listen to what Tom says but observe how he behaves in front of the camera. It will give you a lot of extra valuable information. Hey Justyna
Don’t tell me that you’ve fallen for Tom’s boyish good looks. LOL
In my opinion Tom is the best video guy on the web.
He more than delivers what he promises.
One of the web’s good guys.
Thanks for the mention and I’m sure that Tom will be along shortly to say a few words and to thank you.

Hi Keith,
Tom is definitely a good-looking guy, perfect for video-recording and presenting himself online
But what makes me interested is the value I get from watching his recordings. I appreciate your input into making me familiar with Tom’s existence and skills

What is your take on some of us that shy away from any recording material. Just put a video camera in front of them and then, they go off-key. Probably it is some new skill to learn and one can also do it indoors. Practice is what makes one perfect.
I do not disagree on the perfect looks of Tom

Hi Richard,
Thanks for your visit and a comment!
I recommend starting from making screencasting videos. It’s a great preliminary phase before recording yourself

This is a great point too – start the screencast videos as this will get you half way there but getting you in the video becomes a lot more powerful. Also, have a think about doing some interviews over Skype and record them. These are great for content and mistakes make you human!
Cheers,
Tom

Yes, Skype interviews! Another great way to get into talking heads videos more smoothly
And also a great way to use podcasting as a marketing channel.

Hey Richard, I get this question a lot – how to be ‘natural’ on video. It takes some practice for sure but here is a quick tip…
1) Make sure you speak from the heart and truly care about your viewers, giving them some great content.
2) Record it and then watch it back 10 times giving quality feedback. Re-record and watch 5 times giving yourself quality feedback. Re-record until you are happy to send to me or your closest friends and family for them to give helpful support.
3) Re-record if you wish and then take the plung and start sending to youtube and facebook. Get the feedback and just plug on through, getting more videos done.
Thanks for the compliment too!
Cheers,
Tom

I think good looks with a perfect smile can be quite distracting as well
So far as video production is concerned, I think it will have to wait a bit, I’m still debating the issue of whether to face the camera or hide behind my screen and share my views and opinions.

Thanks for the post and the video! Tom’s got some great tips, really feels like a 1 on 1 chat. Just purchased a samson go mic, does a pretty good job on the audio side of videos.
This is right up my alley, Justyna. I’ve been taking notes of video marketing/branding techniques from several posts already since I am on my way to implementing video on my blog site. I have a background in public speaking and I enjoy interacting with people. I strongly feel that posting a well produced video on my page can help increase traffic and promote my online credibility. Thanks for including the video on this post, Tom Breeze is someone I can see myself emulating.

Well i don’t think that making videos is a good way to get high traffic to your site. I think that pictures are the good way to get high traffic to your blog or your site.Because anybody, who’s on your blog finding an interesting thing, he will definitely click on the picture firstly as well

Thanks for the clear and easy to follow tips. I’ll have to try these out now that I know what to be looking for.

I just got into making videos recently, and while I’m not really keen on being on camera (mainly because they’re not always flattering) I’ve been doing well with PowerPoint slides and Camtasia.
And a note for anyone who isn’t sure they’ve “got it” for making videos: I create videos and sell them for others to use. I’m making good money with it. AND I have a slight speech issue.
I put off making videos for a long time because I was SO scared that people would hear that my voice is a little “off” with some words. But nobody cares – you can hardly hear it.
So don’t let anything scare you off making videos. You’ll be just fine.
Thanks for the great post!
Hi Justnya, you have a wonderful post here. I would just like to add that good lighting is very important in every video. Also, once you’ve mastered the basics of presenting yourself in the video, it’s time to master the art of editing. A nicely edited video will always add impact and will draw the viewer’s attention.
